sewing spurts

Lately, I haven't had time to do much sewing... Between the church plant, the kids, the husband, the house, the cooking, the baby-growing, there just doesn't seem enough time in any day to sit down at my sewing machine.

This morning however, it was raining, which foiled our outdoor plans, which made me sit down at the machine and finally sew knee patches on some of Jonas's pants, which made me want to make something for Penny.

This is how I usually sew: quick and dirty. I don't like patterns because I HATE cutting out all the pieces and I usually don't try to sew things that will take more than one sitting at the sewing machine (i.e.: more than 60 or 90 minutes.) And, I am NOT a perfectionist, which makes finishing projects in that time possible.

I saw this dress on etsy the other day and thought, hey! I could do that! (or, I could do something similar to that!)

Shirt dress by KallioNYC on etsy.

Here's my quick and dirty version, using one of Jeff's shirts...

(Penny chose her own accessories.)

Phone pictures taken in our poorly lit kitchen are very forgiving-- you can't see the kind-of wonky hem,  it's too short (hence, worn with jeans by Penny), and the sash should be a smidge-bit longer. But, for 60 minutes of sewing and repurposing a shirt that was in our Goodwill pile, I'm pretty pleased!
