Tried & True Recipe #9: Bacon Wrapped Smokies

We just dropped off Jeff (and Toby) off at the airport for their meeting in Orange County... Another night without Jeff, but at least this time, we could say "see you tomorrow" instead of "good-bye, see you in 4 days". Oh, and tomorrow's my birthday. I turn 30 on the 30th. I got carded when I tried to buy Nyquil at Target this morning (WHAT?! I know!) and the cashier wished me an early happy birthday. How nice...

Anyway. This one is just disgustingly good. Basically, it's bacon candy with sausages stuffed in the middle. I make these for parties when we're asked to bring an appetizer to share... because these are too good not to share. :)

(To Sunny and anyone else who would even think about using turkey bacon: DON'T DO IT. Turkey bacon is just a sad sad thing.)


Bacon Wrapped Smokies
1 lb./package of bacon, cut the bacon slices into thirds
1 package of cocktail weiners (Lil' smokies)
Brown sugar (3/4 to 1 cup-- to taste)
Toothpicks

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Wrap each cocktail weiner with a 1/3 piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick. Place them on a large baking sheet covered with parchment paper or foil. Sprinkle brown sugar over them, lots of brown sugar-- that's what makes them like candy!

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until the sugar is bubbly.

Let cool for a bit before serving-- they'll be hot.
