My Wonderful Wife

I've been working a couple jobs this summer (one of which is done tomorrow!). This means that the only time I'm home when Jonas and Kathy are awake are when they first get up in the morning (and for anyone who knows me, you can imagine what a pleasant ray of sunshine I am at 6:30), and during a brief time around lunch.

Since I work in a restaurant at night, I don't have the chance to eat dinner (well, I have to pay for it at work, so I pretend I don't have the chance to eat dinner so I won't spend money) until I get home, which is after everyone is in bed. But, my lovely, wonderful, God-given spouse does an amazing job of taking care of me, giving me oases of love in the midst of a busy summer.

One night last week, Kathy made tacos and gave me a very precise and sweet guide to how to make them correctly. She knows I don't like making food for myself (which is why my single-life dinner-of-choice was a can of Campbell's Chunky Soup), and so she made the process enjoyable with a series of post-its in a very Kathy-like fashion. I love her very much.

(I wonder how many posts I will do here with the title "My Wonderful Wife." I'd like to come up with another adjective from time to time, but I think this one captures her perfectly, like a nine-letter portrait. She's swell.)

Bath time!

Sherry from our care group got us a new bathtub for Jonas (he has outgrown the bathroom sink) and we love it! It's made bathtime so much fun...

Jonas in his new tub... his feet covering parts he doesn't want everyone to see. (And so Aunty Yoonjin doesn't feel embarrassed...)

So cute! (Am I allowed to say that about my own baby?)

It's amazing how many rolls of skin/chub he's got under his chin. I try my best to get out all the treasures that accumulate in the folds throughout the day.

All clean!

Dang it.

Yesterday when Jonas and I went to visit my dad, I had some rare time to watch tv with my sister while Jonas was napping. Jeff and I don't have a television so whenever there's a tv on nearby, I'm usually very distracted from everything else (please don't take me to eat at restaurants with televisions-- even if they only play foreign-language shows or bad Indian music videos, I will not be able to turn away from the screen!)

Anyways, she was watching a show I had never seen/heard of before on TLC...

Has anyone else seen this show?

I just spent the last half hour trying to find free episodes of "Jon and Kate Plus 8" online. No luck so far. :(

The best aunt/ee-mo ever...

My sister Karen, Jonas's aunt/ee-mo (which is pronounced like "emo" but I didn't want to spell it that way because it's kind of lame), really knows our little guy's style and taste. Though he's not aware of it yet, one of his favorite articles of clothing will be colorful, soft, cute, "vintage" (if it looks vintage, it's close enough) t-shirts. Needless to say, she always seems to find things that Jeff and I wish we could wear...

If Jonas could talk or send cards, he would say, "THANKS EE-MO! I love my awesome Beatles and Star Wars t-shirts!!!"

Here's Dave and Karen with Jonas when he was just a week and half old:

You guys are swell.

Happy Birthday Grammy!

This weekend we visited Grammy (and Grandpa and Uncle Ni-Ni) in Ventura to celebrate her birthday...

Woohoo!

I can't wait until Jonas is old enough to watch Sesame Street!

(Though we will definitely teach him to count past 4...)

Two years...

Yesterday, Jeff and I celebrated our two-year wedding anniversary. Actually, I should note that we "celebrated": our day was mostly comprised of taking care of a half-blind, drowsy me.

It was much as like our first anniversary. Last year, we celebrated with a weekend in NY. Yes, yes, we were already living in NY, but Jeff and I decided, rather than going away for a weekend, to stay in a nice hotel and live it up in NY for a night (which was perfect since we were getting ready to move away.) Well, that weekend ended up being somewhat disastrous and painful (for Jeff) who got some kind of food poisoning or sickness after eating a fancy steak, and we went home early after a night of vomiting and nausea.

So this year, it wasn't a surprise when things didn't go as planned. We'd planned to have a nice dinner, to go to a movie and to spend the night reflecting on all of God's blessings in our lives. We ended being able to do most of that, but I spent the whole morning and afternoon suffering from a scratch on my eye, like actually on my  eyeball, underneath my upper eyelid. We went to my primary care physician in the morning, who referred us to an opthamologist. I spent most of the day with my eyes closed (which makes cooking a nice meal and wrapping presents and writing cards really hard to do!) and just feeling miserable.

But praise God for doctors and drugs! After the opthamologist, I felt a little better (he gave me drugs and various eyedrops) and made dinner (roasted cornish game hens, parmesan smashed potatoes and green beans) which turned out to be pretty good. I even felt up to making dessert, which was a butterscotch cake (soooo good.)

So we'll be celebrating-celebrating again at the end of the month, when I'm not half-blind and drugged up. And we can't wait to see what happens for our third anniversary...

Hands, Legs

Jonas has funny reflexes. Whenever his hands go out, so do his legs!

Jonas's Mobile

Jonas recently discovered the origami mobile that his mommy made for him. We have put him down for a nap several times thinking he was asleep only to discover that he is wide awake and watching his swans dance. This afternoon, we found him watching his mobile and went on a little safari...

1-month old today!

Jonas is one month old today! (30 days to be exact.)

Here he is doing one of his and Jeff's favorite things: sleeping on his daddy's chest.

We love our chubby little guy...

Look at how much he's grown! This is Jonas on the day we brought him home from the hospital, only 3 days old: (His feet look huge because he was so much smaller...)

And this was Jonas at 3 1/2 weeks! Notice the growing belly and how his feet don't look as huge:

(We had additional pictures and video that I was going to post, but, alas, the woes of computer trouble-- they got eaten up somehow in i-photo. So sad!)
