Wait, I actually like teaching?

Yesterday, I went up to Kathy's school to teach her 6th graders about the Roman Republic. They are about to begin reading Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, and my wife, being the wonderful teacher that she is, wanted to make sure her students knew a thing or two about history before diving into the "thees" and "thous" of the Bard.

While teaching, I realized two things. First, I am mean. I put on my sarcastic hat when standing before a group of adolescents, so all my words are coated in scorn in the classroom. This usually flies well when I've built a rapport with a group of students who know that I love them, even though I am sure to point out how much they suck (within reason, of course).

The second thing that I realized yesterday is that I actually enjoy teaching. I thought I was done after 3 years in Brooklyn, but, surprisingly enough, I walked away hoping to find myself in a classroom once again in the not-too-distant future.

And, if I do get to teach again, it will have the added bonus of getting to make my students cry. Kathy and I both agree that that is an important part of education.

Weekend Recap!

Oh what fun it is when your husband turns 26!
On Friday morning, Jeff celebrated during his Greek class with chocolate cheesecake cupcakes that he got to share with his seminary friends. Then, we went out with our new bestest Escondido friends, Aaron and Amanda, for a night of Asian fun-- they got to have Korean BBQ (pretty good, better than NYC K-town, but definitely not as good as LA Korean food) and boba for the first time! They seemed to enjoy both, and we almost even took sticker pictures together at the boba place (but I couldn't figure out the machine-- boo to me and my lack of Asian-ness skills.) To make things even more Asian, they bought Jeff the CUTEST cell phone charm/toy at the boba place as a birthday present-- pictures of it soon!

Then on Saturday, we drove up to San Dimas for birthday with the family-- met Dave and Karen in West Covina and ate at Ikea, and then had a birthday party at Jeff's Grandpa's (aka G-Locke's) place with all of Jeff's family. It was fun to hang out and catch up, and Jeff's family was so generous!!!

Now we can get Leopard OS for our computers--yay!

Some randomness: I went to the Escondido Public Library's book sale last weekend and found this book...

I was SO excited because if we have an Oliver, it'll be his first Oliver book!
It's about a little boy who doesn't like the things other boys like-- he prefers tap dancing and singing. Jeff thinks it's not an appropriate book for our Oliver, but I think it's cute and funny and I like the colors. (We're also collecting Olivia books, in case we have an Olivia instead of an Oliver.)

Happy Birthday Jeffrey!

Today's Jeff's birthday!

He is 26-- and now we're the same age. (At least until March.)

Lots of fun things planned... More details coming soon!

The Growing Tummy

Here's a not-so-good photo of what happens when I refuse to wear real maternity clothes and force myself into my non-pregnancy shirts (which is now too short) and pants (which now only fit under my belly):
I know that it doesn't look like much, but the sliver of belly that doesn't seem to stay covered has made me search Ebay for hours, looking for maternity pants and jeans so that I can be decently covered at work and when we're out.

We're SO bad about taking pictures. Thank goodness for Photobooth.

Kathy needs a Komb...

There is a danger in posting this. My fear is that others may see this and think I am some miserly brute who won't even spare the $.79 it costs to buy a new one for my thick-haired wife.

Kathy needs a new comb. This is what she has been using recently to brush her hair.
Yes, that's the whole thing. Sad, isn't it.

I swear I didn't know until she told me just now. I thought it was funny, so here it is.

If you would like to contribute to the Kathy needs a Komb fund, you can contact us in the comments section. When we get commitments equaling or exceeding $.79, Kathy will get a new comb! And, if she's lucky, we can raise a whole $4.35 and get her her very own brush!

But I don't want to get her hopes up too much. She'll settle for a comb!

We're (still) back!

Kathy said you could leave us mean comments if we didn't update in the next week. Well, I'm updating and officially rescinding that permission. You may not leave us mean comments. Leave us nice comments. Baby Locke may read this someday. :)

Hopefully, this new (old) blog will prove to be more successful than our old (new) blog, at least as far as updatedness goes...

We're back!

It's a new year and time for (more) blog updates!

Jeff and I have been in Escondido for almost 6 months now and we're finally starting to feel more settled in.

Some things you might want to know about Escondido Jeff & Kathy:

1. Jeff's really REALLY enjoying seminary, all the reading and studying and Greek and Hebrew and classes and professors. Escondido Jeff is truly the Christ- and Bible-loving nerd we all expected him to be.
2. I'm growing in circumference! Baby Locke is almost 21 weeks old in my tummy now and growing! He/She is moving around and making his/her presence known more often than not. (Pictures to come soon... we're having our second trimester ultrasound this week!)
3. As of today, we're officially members at Grace Church in San Diego. We (actually, Jeff, with me standing next to him while he spoke) got to share our testimony with the church today during the induction service. We're really excited to go through this next phase of life of being new parents with our brothers and sisters at Grace Church.
4. Jeff has new Ira Glass-glasses ("Ira Glasses").
5. I'm attempting to be more crafty (the good, felt and needles kind-- not the cunning and tricky kind), especially now that I have a new Hello Kitty sewing machine!
6. We still have a 13-inch height difference, and I'm still Korean-American and Jeff's still white. (Some things never change...)

If neither of us updates in the next week, you have permission to leave us mean comments.
