Homeschool Fridays

The school where I teach is part of a "homeschooling district", which means that the kids come to school and I teach on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and on Fridays, all of the students are supposed to be homeschooled by their families. We assign Friday work for the parents to work on with the students, and for the most part, it gets done and all is well.

Sounds like I get 3-day weekends every weekend, right? I wish it were so. Instead, on Fridays, the teachers have to work on paperwork (tons and tons of it!), input information into a ridiculously difficult program called ReportWriter, do professional development (ie. have very long meetings), and also plan and prep for their classes (we don't get any prep time during the week.) Usually I have to drive up to Temecula to get this work done, but on some Fridays, we're allowed to work from home!

So, this morning, instead of doing all of the things mentioned above, I did one of my favorite things to do in Escondido... thrift store shopping! Here's my loot:

I got a Jimi Hendrix t-shirt (ha.), a blue handknit sweater, a tweed vest, a scarf that looks like a guitar-strap, a flowery blouse and an orange sweater-- all for $11! Hooray for buy 2, get 1 free! And, I can actually wear 5 of the 6 items now, 7+ months pregnant and all! (The blue sweater will have to go in my "September Clothes" suitcase...)
